Assessment

Assessment is a crucial component of speech therapy, as it provides the foundation for developing personalised treatment plans and measuring progress over time. Here, at Bright Sparks Speech we offer a variety of assessments based upon your child’s needs. These can include:

  • Standardised Assessments (to support diagnosis)
  • Non Standardised Assessments (to support goal setting)
  • Screening (for Kindy and Pre-Primary students)

We can also offer one off assessments as required by AISWA and SCRSA used for school funding.

Intervention

Speech pathology intervention is tailored to the unique needs, strengths, and goals of each child. It encompasses a range of evidence-based techniques and strategies.

These improve communication and language skills required to enhance quality of life, and promote participation in everyday activities. It differs from individual to individual with session times ranging from 30 minutes to 1 hour, based upon the child’s needs.

Our speech therapists structure intervention to provide your child with a fun, engaging and positive experience as we work to provide your child with the safety and compassion to achieve their goals in a positive and caring environment.

Schools

We can work together with schools to provide support for teachers in the form of professional development, screening or diagnostic assessments for funding.

We can also work with schools collaboratively to establish a partnership with teachers and staff, providing support and early intervention for students with their speech, language and literacy needs.

Some services may be provided at local schools upon request.

We have a STEP by STEP process for using well-recognised methods to help children with their speech pathology needs. These are the steps we follow:

STEP 1 – Booking

Call us or email us to make an initial appointment.

Referrals are not required to access services with Bright Sparks Speech. If you, or other people in your child’s life have identified concerns with their speech, language or literacy, please come and see us!

STEP 2 – The Initial Appointment

The initial appointment will provide the opportunity to discuss your child’s needs, your concerns, and will enable us to begin our assessment.

This initial appointment is generally for a 1 hr period, however, it may be longer based upon the complexity of the assessment, the individual child and their requirements.

STEP 3 – After the Assessment

Following the assessment, we will provide you with a report within 4 weeks (6 for comprehensive – additional cost required) which will provide you with a summary of the assessments administered and the findings based upon these assessments.

As a profession, we are required to provide reports for all assessments with a simple summary included with your initial appointment fee.

STEP 4 – Intervention

Based upon the findings from the assessment and the needs and goals identified in consultation with parents and caregivers, we will develop an individualised therapy plan.

Therapy can be conducted weekly, fortnightly or bi weekly for durations of 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour based upon your child’s needs.
